Nicole Vanasse of Pingry, a multiple state champion on the track and in cross-country, won't be competing at the state meets this season due to injury, her father Gerry Vanasse confirmed on Monday.

Pingry is competing at the NJSIAA Non-Public A South Jersey Sectional Championships today and tomorrow at Donovan Catholic in Toms River, but Vanasse won't be running.

That means Vanasse can't compete at the State Non-Public A Championships next week or the Meet of Champions next month. Qualifying for those meets is done at the sectional championships.

Vanasse's final race of this season before her injury came at the Penn Relays at the end of April when she split 2:13.27 on the leadoff leg in the 4x800 relay. She also ran 10:44 in the 3,200m in a dual meet in April, and ran legs of 2:15 for 800 and 5:02 for 1,600 at the Somerset County Relays.

Vanasse, a junior,  has built a remarkable resume at Pingry.

She won the 3,200m at the 2018 Indoor Meet of Champions, has won two state XC titles, was a Foot Locker National XC qualifier this past fall, ran a  PR of 10:32.77 when she placed 13th in the two-mile at the New Balance Indoor Nationals this past March, and last spring she won the 1,600 at the State Non-Public A Championships and was third in the 1,600 at the Meet of Champions.
