It was only a matter of time before Brielle Smith unloaded a bomb in the javelin this season.
The time came on Saturday at the Woodbury Relays when the senior at Oakcrest shattered her own state javelin record with a massive US#1 throw of 168-6 on her fourth and final attempt.
The Stanford-bound Smith, who won the javelin at the New Balance National Championships last June,
smashed the girls state record of 163-8 that she threw to win the Meet of Champions last spring, and is now No. 13 on the U.S. All-Time list with the curent javelin, which has been used since 2002.
When Smith threw 163-8 at the M of C last spring, she broke the previous state record of 160-08, which was held by Maria Jimenez of Vineland since 2012.
