GET UR HOLMDEL PARK ON!!
GET UR KATELYN TUOHY ON!!!
GET UR XC ON!!!!
There are few places that give me chills-Holmdel Park is right at the top!!!
If you are looking for the best possible wall-to-wall, start line to finish line coverage of the New Balance Shore Coaches Meet, you have come to the right place. You name it, you will find it here.
Live updates will be down below, tons of photos will be posted, videos from the mile, 2-mile mark and finish line and lots of video interviews will all be coming straight at you. So keep checking back here for the latest updates.
This has the makings of perhaps the most memorable Shore Coaches meet ever because of the presence of Tuohy. In case you havene't been paying attention, the junior at North Rockland in NY is arguably the greatest female distance runner in US high school history.
She won the Nike XC National title last year, broke the National 5K indoors record last winter, broke the one mile and 3,200 national outdoor records this past spring, and two weeks ago she ran the fastest 5K in US high school history for a girl with a time of 16:06 at the Ocean State Invit at Goddard Park in Rhode Island.
So the course record here at Holmdel (17:28 by Megan Venables of Highland Reg. at the 2010 State Group 3 meet) is going to get crushed today. There is just no way it won't. Tuohy is running in the A race at 3:50 p.m.. How low will she go??
Well, Edward Cheserek ran 14:34 at Goddard Park after running the course record of 14:53 at Holmdel Park in 2011-a 19 second difference. So that means Tuohy should be well under 17. If I have to make a prediciton, I'll go with somehwere around 16:40. I know its hard to believe that someone can run that fast at Holmdel, but Tuohy is one of those once in a generation type runners. She is the Sydney McLaughlin of high school distance runners.
While Tuohy is the main attraction today, there are several other great things to keep an eye as over 6,500 runner will take the start line today in 27 races!!!
This is the meet that separates the pretenders from the contenders, and solidifies who the top teams and runners in the state are.
There's a bunch of great team and individual matchups on tap today, so strap on a seat belt on and enjoy an awesome day of XC.
Just how awesome is today?? It's a distance runners dream with 27 races on the schedule!!!! That means from 9 a.m. until around 5:15 p.m. there will be races going on here. How awesome is that!!!!! Next to the state meets, this is the best day of the seaso p.m. n!!!!
Good luck to everyone!!
