On Monday evening a complaint was filed to the NJSIAA in regard to the legitimacy of a meet that was said to be held May 20th, at Schools Stadium, in Newark, NJ. It has come into question whether or not the competition, titled as the Brick City Invite, even took place.
As reported by Paul Schwartz, of NorthJersey.com, Monday night, this has since been brought to the attention of Assistant Director of the NJSIAA Bill Bruno. Bruno has noted that the complaint will be brought to NJSIAA Executive Director Larry White on Tuesday morning and an investigation will move forward from there as needed.
The moment the integrity of the meet results, which were uploaded by the meet, came into concern they were removed from the meet page found on MileSplit.
Schwartz began investigating the complaint after one of the parents reported that their child had never competed at this particular meet but were listed in the original results.
The meet results list West Side, East Orange, Malcolm X Shabazz, Peoples Prep, Immaculate Conception (Montclair), Greater Oaks, Bard HS, and Centralville TC as in attendance but this does not mean they were knowledgeable or involved.
Monday night NJ MileSplit reporter Jim Lambert reached out to East Orange Campus Head Coach Lance Wigfall. "East Orange never attended a track meet on May 20th, and it is a meet that I've never heard of," said Wigfall. His team had been competing in the Essex County Championships the two days prior.
The Brick City track results, which were recorded incorrectly for a hand timed meet, were not accepted as official times by MileSplit, though the field results were before their prompt removal Monday night. MileSplit will also be looking over other meets hosted by this meet management group to ensure their legitimacy.
As more information comes forward a follow up story will be released.
