Whippany Park's Maria Grill (#4) and Hanover Park's Kimora Johnson (#5) battle for a close points race in the 200m.
Sunday afternoon the NJSIAA reported to NJ MileSplit that the Sectional title for the North 2 Group 2 girls championship will be shared between Hanover Park and Whippany Park at 85 points each.
Initially after Saturday's conclusion of the meet it appeared that Hanover had won a hard fought battle over Whippany by two points, 87 to 85. On Sunday that changed when New Jersey's great track and field community shined once again. According to the NJSIAA the Hanover Park Coach, Bill DiMauro, contacted them about a statistical error that had given his team the close win.
Kelly Pierson had been scored third for Hanover Park in the shot put throwing 33-09.5 when in actuality she threw a 33-00.5 for fourth, bumping up Felicia Johnson of Science Park to third with a mark of 33-07. This effectively erased the lead and made both teams co-champions.
