East Orange is making moves, the latest in the form of their first state relay title in school history. With wins in the shuttle hurdles (30.55), 4x400 (3:23.29), and sprint medley (3:36.69) the East Orange boys amassed 38 points to win the Group 4 relays. As is the case with many of the relay state title teams athletes had to step up in multiple events, Immyouri Etienne was a prime example of this having competed in the 4x4, 4x8, and the 800m leg on the SMR. He spoke with me on the teams performance and what it is like to focus on so many events in one meet in the interview above. For a full team breakdown check the table at the bottom of this article.
A meet full of highlights... The JFK Paterson high jump team cleared a total height of 12-06, led by Jadon Watson's 6-08 clearance which tied the state lead and ranks US#7. His teammate Jamier Wright, a sophomore, cleared 5-10.
Elizabeth set the Group 4 meet record with their time of 1:41.49 NJ#7 this season. West Windsor Plainsboro South opened the meet with a 10:33.36 in the DMR a NJ#2 time. Rancocas Valley ran the fastest 4x800 time of the entire weekend with their 8:06.82. David Bausmith of Hunterdon Central vaulted 14-06 with teammate Justin Thomas at 12-06 to win their pole vault relay event.
