On Sunday in Toms River, NJ during the Monmouth County Relay Championships a few times and marks cracked the top ten nationally.
Anselmi Breaks Through in the High Jump
Something that really caught our eye was the 6-08 high jump PR Mark Anselmi cleared to lead the meet and his relay team to victory. Last indoor season Anselmi had only cleared 6-00 once and his outdoor best was 6-04. That was a massive increase in height for this junior star and it moved him up to US#5, tied with four others, as well as the state lead. When looking at last year's indoor stats for the entire season Anselmi would have ranked third.
His Middletown South teammate Jonathan Scamardella was fourth overall with his own PR of 6-00 bringing their total to 12-08 to win the combined relay event. In the interview above they stated a New Jersey track and field great and 1984 Olympian Milton Goode was working with them over the summer months. Goode still ranks second all-time indoors for the state at 7-02.25 in the high jump, he competed for Monmouth Regional.
Christian Brothers Academy and Red Bank Catholic Capture Team Titles
CBA captured their eighth straight and 35th overall Monmouth County Relay team championship. They scored a whopping 94 points, a whole 61 ahead of the rest of the meet. They earned gold in the shot put, 4x200, SMR, and DMR for their full team scoring report check here.
Red Bank Catholic won their first team title since 2005, their fourth all-time. They won the 4x200, 4x400, SMR, and 4x800 en route to their overall victory of 58 points. Rumson-Fair Haven was second with a total of 46. For Red Bank Catholic's full team stat report check here.
Other Notables
Emma Vasen of Ocean Twp moved up to NJ#2 US#10 in the girls shot put with her meet leading 41-1. Middletown South girls now rank NJ#2 US#10 in the DMR with their 12:44.13 win.
The boys 4x800 meter brought us NJ#3 through NJ#5 with Ocean Twp winning at 8:13.90, Matawan Reg 8:14.53, and Middletown North 8:15.85.
