Sophomore Jenna Rogers of Rutherford is an athlete with a lot of hype coming into her first indoor season and she is already living up to it. The high jump star cleared 5-10 on Saturday during the Hall of Fame Invitational at The Armory in New York, NY.
She started her night with a 5-02 clearance, after getting over the bar on one jump she passed 5-04, made 5-06 with ease and eventually brought the bar up to 5-10 from there. Rogers finished first overall with eight inches over the rest of the meet.
The indoor and overall state record is held by Tatiana Smolin of Randolph who cleared 6-0 in 1985. Rogers broke Smolin's outdoor state record of 5-11 last spring at New Balance Nationals Outdoor when she cleared 6-00.75.
What a start for Jenna Rogers. In her first indoor meet the Rutherford sophomore, a national champ last year, won the AT&T Hall of Fame High jump at 5-10, breaking an 18 year old Bergen record!@varsityaces
As a freshman she won eight meets last spring in the high jump including her last of the season at New Balance Nationals Outdoor where she hit a four plus inch personal record of 6-0.75. Not only did that break the New Jersey state record but it was also the national freshman record previously held by Olympian Vashti Cunningham.
The only meet she didn't win was when she finished third at the Meet of Champions with her best prior to Nationals of 5-08. This is the young talent's first indoor season, last year as a freshman she played volleyball.
