On Thursday night the first of two Cherokee Night Racing meets kicked off, the "Night of 3200s". The meet ran 13 packed heats of the 3200 meter run and 302 athletes crossed the finish line, you can watch heat by heat races here.
With some great competition and a cool spring night both the boys and girls meet records went down. Nick Falk ran a 9:19.18 NJ#2 to take down Brian Hill's record of 9:19.59 from last year. En route to his career best time Falk took the lead away from Matthew Santamaria of West Windsor-Plainsboro North heading into the bell. Despite a valiant 64 second last lap kick from Patrick Walsh of South Amboy, who moved from fifth to second at 9:20.81 NJ#3, no one else from the lead pack had an answer from there as Falk threw down a 64.89 split of his own to seal the victory. Santamaria finished third running 9:21.97 NJ#4 and the meet accounted for seven of the top ten boys times in the state so far.
The previous record holder Brian Hill of CBA was in the race with the leaders looking strong before taking what appeared to be a healthy planned drop out with two laps to go.

On the girls side Alexa Weber of Ocean City set the meet record by a large margin finishing at 11:11.80 NJ#1 also taking over the state lead so far this season. The previous meet standard was set last year by Destiny Stanford of Kingsway at 11:20.49.
In fact the top three girls finished ahead of that time, Chloe Wong of Hillsborough was second running 11:19.01 NJ#3 and Sarah McGowan of Montgomery finished third with a major PR of 11:20.40 NJ#4. The girls races made up eight of the top ten 3200 meter times in the state so far this young season.
