This has been a historic season for the Mountain Lakes girls, from state relays to sectionals and now their first Group 1 state championship in school history. A team of five girls brought home 55 points including four event wins.
Mountain Lakes' four individual championships came from two athletes. Senior Kyra Velock won the 400 meter running 59.51 and the 800 meter with a 2:17.01. Junior Izzi Gengaro dominated the distance events with wins in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter recorded at 5:16.78 and 11:44.24.
Also bringing in a large amount of points was Therese Olshanski who finished second in the 1600 meter at 5:21.87 and third in the 800 meter running 2:25.16. She was also on the sixth place 4x400 meter squad with Kyra Velock, Julia Sheppell and Lainie Seijas.
Second place in the team scoring was Willingboro with 35 points and third Whippany Park at 20. Willingboro had three state championship winning performances. Jordan McRae Ross won the 55 meter with a time of 7.35, the 13th fastest performance among all the Groups. Kenady Wilson cleared 5-2 in the high jump for first, and their 4x400 meter squad closed the meet with a 4:11.88 victory.

In the 55 meter hurdles Rachael Leyrer of Buena Regional became the Group 1 state champ running 8.95. Irene Park of Pequannock vaulted 9-06 in the pole vault for the win. AP Schalick's Zyra Thomas continued her great season with a 42-2.5 in the shot put, the sixth best throw of the weekend.
