A Busy Week 7 of Track and Field | Results Board and Storylines


Interview with 55 meter hurdle state record holder Cory Poole. 

This was a jam packed week of track and field with championships left and right, huge multi-state invitationals, and even a world record distance medley involving our local high school Olympian. Check out the results below with notes and any links to more in depth coverage. Each meet header will link to their meet page where full results can be found.

Tuesday January 24th

Princeton HS Elite Meet

Some solid performances at this meet including a NJ#5 time in the 200 meter by South Brunswick's Harmodio Cruz who ran 22.45. Alex Roth of Princeton HS also ran well winning the 3200 meter with a 9:28.88, he has since ran faster now ranking NJ#3 with his 9:23.40 win at Mercer County Champs on Sunday. 

On the girls side Abrianna Barrett of Montgomery cleared 5-04 to tie NJ#6 this season and Bonvie Fosam of Robbinsville hit a mark of 36-11.75 in the triple jump. Fosam already ranks NJ#2 with a 37-4 this season. 

Rebel Shot Put Series #4

Once again the US#2 all-time ranked Alyssa Wilson of Donovan Catholic wow'd the crowd with a 55-10 shot put mark, that is her best throw of the series so far. She leads a group of 15 girls into the championship on February 7th. A more in depth look at the series for far will be published soon.

Wednesday January 25th

Bergen County Relays

There were a bunch of NJ#5 rankings from this championship meet including the Northern Highlands girls sprint medley at 4:17.20 and 4x400 meter 4:03.00. Another girls squad ranked NJ#5 was the Paramus Catholic girls 4x200 meter running 1:45.60.  On the boys side  Dwight Morrow is now NJ#5 in the 4x200 meter with a 1:31.40.

In the 4x1600 meter the Ridgewood boys and girls had huge performances clocking in at 17:55.20 and 22:02.30.  For full results and team scores from this meet click here.

Morris County Championships

Very exciting races at this event and we have every race captured on video! There were quite a few exciting finishes at this meet but one of the best battles came during the boys 1600 meter when Eric Clay of Morristown and Alexander Pai of Morris Hills went to the line  running 4:19.41 NJ#4 and 4:19.91 NJ#5 respectively. Looking for more? In the 4x400 meter we had a four team battle on the final stretch  in the boys race which Chatham won running 3:27.71 NJ#6 (watch here), then the girls race broke the meet record thanks to Roxbury running 4:03.54 NJ#6, (watch here)

Some other individual highlights include... Simone Kirton's win in the 55H running 8.34 NJ#4... Brooke Olson of Randolph lapped the entire field in the 3200m with an 11:07.31 NJ#3, her teammate Abby Loveys first in the 1600m 5:04.73 NJ#4... For the boys Alexander Pai who had that exciting second place finish in the 1600m came back to win another exciting one in the 1000m running 2:33.88 NJ#2... John Burk of Parsippany shot up the rankings to NJ#4 with his shot put throw of 58-1.25. 

The team titles were won by Randolph (team breakdown) with 95 points and Morris Hills (team breakdown) at 58. Watch all the races from this meet right here.

SJTCA Meet #9

Some individual highlights include... Martin Booker Jr of Pennsauken won both the 55 meter and 400 meter with times of 6.50 NJ#5 and 50.10 NJ#9... Mulual Mu of Trenton Central won the 1600 meter running 4:23.11...  For the girls meet Lenaami Morton of Camden is now NJ#2 after posting 8.13 in the 55 hurdles... Vineland's Najeaya Singleton threw 42-11 NJ#3 in the shot put... Aliyah Taylor of Rancocas Valley posted two wins including the 55 dash 7.15 and 400 dash 56.81 and she has already ran faster!... Shakira Dancy of Winslow won the 200 meter running 25.45 NJ#2... 

Thursday January 26th

Cherokee Throw Down #2

The multiple meet series now has two new leaders this season. Maurice Johnson of Rancocas Valley threw 50-1.5 for the boys and Justine Hosszu of Southern Regional had a mark of 39-0.

Probably the best performance of the meet was when Rachel Vick of Kingsway ran NJ#8 in the 3200 meter winning at 11:14.47. 


Shore Conference Championships

This meet was loaded with big time performances, you can check out all the national elite standard times and marks here. For this quick summary we'll pick out a few of the very best. 

The team titles were won by the CBA boys (team breakdown) and Southern Regional girls (team breakdown).

In the girls meet Niamh Hayes of Howell won two events running 5:05.75 in the 1600 and 10:58.34 NJ#2 in the 3200 meter... Katie DiFrancesco of St. John Vianney is now NJ#3 in the 400 meter at 57.98... For the shot put Alyssa Wilson threw 54-8.5, already 56-2.5 this season, and Danielle Notarfrancesco thew 46-8.5 NJ#2 for second... In the 4x400 meter Middletown North ran 4:03.70 NJ#7, they had Jenna Reid on that squad who placed second in the 400 meter 58.34 NJ#4 and first in the 55 hurdles 8.44 NJ#7 as well. 

Some boys highlights include... Marvin Morgan of Neptune tied NJ#1 in the 55 dash with his winning time of 6.43, ran 6.44 in the prelims... Another NJ#1 came during the 800 meter run when Drew Maher of Shore Regional won running 1:56.36 Thomas Kalieta Jr of Matawan won the 400 meter with a NJ#8 time of 50.09... Tim Jacoutot of CBA won the 55 meter hurdles with a career best 7.57 NJ#5... And in the shot put Toms River North's Ryan Roger threw 57-11 NJ#5... 


Saturday January 28th

Franklin & Marshall Invitational #2

New Jersey had one team in attendance at this Pennsylvania based meet, you can view Cinnaminson's full team breakdown here. They top placing performance on the girls side was Prisca Blamon in the shot put throwing 34-10 for third. The boys saw Kamron Kobolak take second in the boys shot put throwing 49-2. 

New Balance Indoor Grand Prix

This was awesome, if you didn't hear Sydney McLaughlin was invited to run on a star studded distance medley attempting to break the world record. She stepped up to the challenge split a 52.32 on her 400 meter leg and they crossed the line at 10:40.31 officially setting the new world standard in the event. 

The squad's splits went as follows... Coburn 3:18.40 - 1200m, McLaughlin 52.32 - 400m, Martinez 2:01.92 - 800m, Simpson 4:27.66 - 1600m.
