In the Boys Gr. 1 race, Peter Thorpe of Spotswood took the win in 17:09 over Paterson Catholic's Anthony Andrews who ran 17:25. Third went to Dayton Flannery of Bronxville in 17:54. Bronxville and Tri-Valley toook the top 2 team spots with Whippany Park taking 3rd as the first NJ school. They were followed by Spotswood and Waldwick.
In the Girls Group 1 team race, New York teams took the top 3 spots (Bronxville, Tri-Valley, hastings) with Whippany Park again the top NJ school in 4th.
With MOC contenders Morris Hills and Red Bank Catholic. both holding out their top guys, the Boys Group 2 race went to Mike Hicky of Pearl River (NY) who despite the conditions ran the 4th fastest time ever (15:49) on the Freedom Park course. Second place went to Chris Johnson of Gov. Livingston (16:40) with Matawan's Ryan Montaperto in 3rd (16:46). Behind Hicky's win, Pearl River took the team title with Red Bank Catholic in 2nd and Matawan in 3rd. It is interesting to note that RBC scored with 3 sophs and a jr and ran a pack that finished 11,12,13,14 & 22.
The Girls Gr. 2 race saw a strong performance by Rachel Ngu of Gov. Livingston who toured the by now chewed up Freedom Pk layout in 19:20, scoring a 12 sec. win over Katie Sullivan of Ursaline (NY) who ran 19:32 with Sarah Vagie of A.L. Johnson (Clark) 3rd in 19:38. Pearl River edged out A.L. Johnson by 1 point (61 to 62) for team honors with Ursaline (NY) 3rd.
In the last 2 races of the nigh the Group 3 events Chris Banafato of Bridgewater-Raritan survided a fall halfway into the race, which cost him about 10 places, to win in 16:57. He was followed by Anthony Bellitti (17:00) of Ridge and Sean Halpin of Iona Prep (NY) in 17:18. The team win went to Ridge (49 pts.) which put all 5 scorers in the top 20. In 2nd was Bridgewater-Raritan with host Randolph in 3rd.
Ridge took 1-2 in the Girls Grp. 3 race with the win going to Dana Guglielmo in 19:41 with teammate Amanda Gracia 2nd in 20:07.4, just edging Molly Higgins of Randolph (20:07.68). After Ridge put up 3 points on there top 2 scorers, Randolph took the next 3 spots and the team win with 39 points to Ridge's 45. Jackson Memorial took 3rd with 86 pts.
