Wilson Earns Bronze at IAAF World U20 Championships

Alyssa Wilson, the New Jersey state record holder in the shot put and discus, placed third overall at the IAAF World U20 Shot Put Championships on Wednesday in Bydgoszcz, Poland. 

Wilson earned her bronze medal throwing 16.33m (53-07), her only counted mark of the final section. She qualified for finals on her last throw of the semis where she launched a 15.37m (50-05), her first two throws of the semi-finals included a no mark and a 14.44 (47-04.5) throw. She was seventh overall coming out of the semi-final round. 

The Donovan Catholic star is heading into her senior year, and is just 17 years old. She's taken the high school girls throwing table by storm setting New Jersey records almost every week of the season and winning 24 outdoor competitions in 2016, 13 shot put 11 discus. Those wins included a shot put national championship where she threw 17m (55-9.25)

Also throwing in this competition from New Jersey was Jessica Molina who placed eighth in Group B semi-finals and 17th in the combined qualification results throwing 14.02 (46-00). Molina graduated from Westwood HS this past spring and will be attending Wake Forest in the fall.
