Meet Preview: Event by Event Look at the East Brunswick Invitational

Boys - 400 Hurdles -  Watch Anthony Delpopolo of J F Kennedy and Callan Davies of East Brunswick, who are among the best hurdlers in Middlesex County.  In the final heat all 3 Trenton Boys have career bests of under 60 seconds, they should be the team to beat. 

Girls 400 Hurdles -  Will be a good showdown between East Brunswick and South Brunswick girls 400 hurdle teams, which should be a very tight matchup.  Mariah Shumette and Jasmine Jerman for East Brunswick have personal bests below 65 seconds and Briana Araque for South Brunswick has run 66 seconds in this event.

Boys 4x800 -  River Dell Ran 7:52 Indoors and should be the team to beat.  The Daly twins (River Dell) finished 1,2 in the 1600 at the indoor Meet of Champions, each running 4:13.  East Brunswick, Elizabeth, Morristown, and Trenton Central are looking for 8:08 standard required for the Penn Relays.

Girls 4x800 -  Spotswood, Lenape, and South Brunswick all are putting spectacular teams on the line.  Lenape and South Brunswick are looking for the 9:40 standard for large schools at Penn, while Spotswood hopes to run faster than the 9:50 required for small schools.

Boys Super Sprint Medley -  The top heat offers some outstanding sprinters.  Look for Benjamin Aidoo of Sayreville and Brandon Phillip of East Brunswick, both of whom were group four champions in their respective events this Winter. 

Girls Super Sprint Medley -  Top seed in this heat is Abraham Clarke, who has sprinter Janeen Gray.  Gray is one of the top female sprinters in Union County.  Watch North Brunswick and East Brunswick, both of whom have outstanding anchors.  Shelby Francis of North Brunswick and Shanelle Colmon of East Brunswick will be running the final 400 for their teams. 

Boys Frosh 800 -  East Brunswick has 6 of the top 10 seeds.  These were the same boys who broke the Freshmen Course Record at the Shore Coaches Invitational this past fall in cross country.

Girls Frosh 800 -  Watch top seed Bryn Horner of Neptune, who is seeded 6 seconds in front of the rest of the field.

Boys 4 x200 -  Trenton Central has a number of accomplished athletes on this 4x200 team including Shikeem Hill and Semaj Willis.  They currently have the 3rd fastest 4x200 time this outdoor season.  East Brunswick a top 20 4x200 team in the state this past indoor season will look to challenge them.

Girls 4x200 -  Neptune, East Brunswick, and South Brunswick will battle out this race.  All three teams were 1:45 or faster last spring.  Neptune ran the fastest 4x200 in the state last spring, running 1:39.76 at New Balance Nationals.

Boys Freshmen 200 -  Top heat has 6 freshmen boys seeded at 24.00 or better.

Girls Freshmen 200 - 4 Girls seeded under 28 seconds

Boys Shuttle Hurdles -   Benjamin Aidoo of Sayreville, the Meet of Champions winner in the 55 hurdles  indoors will be running in the 1st heat.   East Brunswick is the top seed in the hurdles.  Callan Davies from East Brunswick was the runner up in Group 4 this indoor season.Trenton will be tough to beat having a top 10 shuttle hurdles time in the state of NJ this past indoor season.   Trenton's best hurdler Josiah Kwiete has already run 15.4 this outdoor season.

Girls Shuttle Hurdles- South Brunswick had the 8th fastest shuttle hurdle team in the state indoors, while Chatham was 11th in state rankings.  Should be a good matchup.

Boys DMR -  River Dell is the class of the field, having placed second in this race at New Balance Nationals this March at New Balance Nationals.  This race will again feature Colin and Will Daly who were 1,2 indoors at the Meet Of Champions in the 1600.  Keep an eye on Trenton who will have the Mu brothers.  Mulal Mu is the currently outdoor leader in the 1600 in NJ this season, while his brother Deng Mu holds the best time in the state this outdoor season in the 800. 

Girls DMR -  River Dell looks like the best team in this race having run 12:32 this indoor season.  They will be challenged by Spotswood having run 12:42 indoors.  Keep an eye on Shannon Goria of RIver Dell who has a personal best of 5:07 in the 1600.  She also was the group II runner up in cross country this past fall.  Spotswood has two of Middlesex County's best distance runners on their team, Alex Coghlan who has a personal best 5:00 min 1600 and Katherine Wasserman who ran 4:55 in the 1600 last spring.

Boys Novice 800 - Reggie Boston of Perth Amboy is seeded 1st in the novice boys 800.

Girls Novice 800-  Abigail Silva of Neptune is the top seed in the girls novice 800.

Boys 4x100 -  Look out for Marteese Jones of South Plainfield in heat 4 lane 5.  He is this year's indoor Meet of Champion's winner in the 55 dash.   The final heat  will be a very fast 4x100 race.  It features many of the top 4x100 teams in the state.  The trenton team includes standouts Semaj WIllis and Josiah Kwiete.  Elizabeth features Joe Miguerson on of the top sprinters in Union County.  East Brunswick has freshman sensation Josh Newton and senior standout Brandon Phillip.  Sayreville's Benjamin Aidoo will be one to watch in lane 4.  JFK stars include Anthony DelPopolo and Alexander Moore.

Girls 4x100 -  This will also be an extremely fast race.  The Neptune girls are the clear favorites, seeded with a 49.00   Woodbridge, East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Lenape, and Sayreville all have some outstanding athletes.  Woodbridge has Elisanett  Marine and Dorval Makisha, two of the fastest girls in Middlesex County.   East Brunswick will run with star sophomore Shanelle Colmon who placed 5th in the Freshman 100 dash last spring at New Balance Nationals.   Desirae Osley was runner up in the group 4 400 for South Brunswick this indoor season.  Watch for Jasmine Staten of Lenape, who was one of the top sprinters in the state this past indoor season.  Dakota Gerges is Sayreville's standout in the race so watch for her in lane 6.

Boys 4x400-  Should be a tight race between Trenton, Elizabeth, Abraham Clark, and J F Kennedy.  All four teams have indoor bests between 3:27 and 3:30.

Girls 4x400 -  Another close race between East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Sayreville and River Dell.  All four team teams are seeded below 4:10. 


Field Events

Boys Pole Vault -  All eyes should be on Josh Ward from South Plainfield.  He was the Pole Vault Champion at this year's Indoor Meet of Champions, jumping 14-6 inches.

Girls Pole Vault -   Danielle Izzo is the top contender in the girls' Pole Vault.  She has a personal best of 10 ft. 6 inches and place 12th in this year's indoor Meet of Champions.

Boys High Jump-  Semaj Willis should be fun to watch.  He was this year's group 4 indoor champion in high jump and has a personal best of 6-8.  He currently has the top high jump in the state this outdoor season.

Girls High Jump -  The girls high jump features 8 girls seeded at 5 ft or higher.  The girl to watch will be Courtney Campbell of South Brunswick who was this year's indoor Meet of Champions winner with a personal best of 5 ft. 6 inches.  Leyna Abrahams of East Brunswick has come on strong this spring and has a recent personal best of 5 ft. 3 inches.  The team to watch will be River Dell who has three athletes seeded at 5-2 or better. 

Boys Long Jump Relay-  This is a deep field with 10 boys seeded with 20 feet or better in the long jump.  The two boys to watch are teammates from New Brunswick, Maurice French and Kadas Reams who both have jumped over 21 feet. 

Girls Long Jump Relay-  Gloria Donou from East Brunswick is approaching 18 feet and is the top seed in today's long jump.  East Brunswick has 3 of the top 7 seeds all jumping over 16 feet so far this season.

Boys Triple Jump Relay -  Dodley Thermitus of Elizabeth is one of the state's top triple jumpers having a seed of 46 feet. 1 inch.  Elizabeth has 3 boys seeded in the top 5 all of whom have jumps of over 42 feet.

Girls Triple Jump Relay-  This event features 3 Middlesex County girls with jumps over 36 feet Gloria Donou of East Brunswick, Jamina Morris of JP Stevens, and Tiara Howard of New Brunswick.  Middlesex county will look to dominate the girls triple jump as the top 7 girls are from the GMC. 

Boys Discus Throw-  Nicolas Botett of South Brunswick and Brandon Davis of Old Bridge will be battling it out in discus.  Both have personal bests of over 170 feet.  Davis's throw of 171-9 is top in the state so far this Spring.

Girls Discus -  Olivia Scattergood, who is the top returning discus thrower in Middlesex County is the top seed in this event.   River Dell has another very impressive 3-person relay with all three of their discus throwers seeded over 111 feet.

Boys Javelin -  Brandon Davis is the top seed in the boys jav and his throw of 175-9 at the Metuchen Relays puts him 2nd in NJ so far this spring.  Old Bridge has 3 throwers over 140 feet.

Girls Javelin -  Miranda Irizarry of South Brunswick is one of the state's top returners in the event.  Her personal best of 125 ft. 4 inches is the top seed by 17 feet.

Boy's Shot put Relay -  Nicolas Botett of South Brunswick, Dominic Walton and Brandon Davis of Old Bridge will battle it out for the best throw of the day.  Old Bridge and South Brunswick will have a close matchup for the 3 person team victory in this event.

Girls Shot Put Relay -  Eryn Handy of Sayreville comes in as the top seed in the shot put.  She was this year's central jersey group 4 sectional champion in the shot put this indoor season.  South Brunswick appears to be the top team in this event.
