Conversational Notes
Kellert - Obviously this one can easily go either way. Despite the statistical head to head match-up favoring the 2013 Champion Briana Gess I'm going to go with the sophomore Alyssa Aldridge. She's made major time drops at all the courses she revisited from her freshmen season and is flying on some major momentum right now. Between watching her race and stats there is nothing saying she wouldn't go sub-18 at Holmdel if asked upon in the race on Saturday. Much like Gess did her freshmen year when she ran 17:45. The argument for Gess is very similar, she's had a fantastic season and dropped a major time at Manhattan when she ran 14:10 in the 4K. Both look strong heading in and Gess' extra experience at this level and state title history will face off against Aldridge's downward trending times and momentum. One more thing I'd like to point out as well, Sierra Castaneda is in this race, if there is one other athlete to win this I'd have to say it would be her. She's put together a really strong season and will take advantage of any misstep the other two may have.
Stranieri - This race is almost just as muddled as the boys. Alyssa Alridge has the fastest time at Holmdel this season at 18:13, but she is facing the 2013 XC MOC in Brianna Gess this weekend. Ultimately I think this race will be fast with those two, as well as Julia Guerra and surprise Group 4 winner Olympia Martin, each pushing each other to a top time. Overall I'm giving the edge to Gess as she knows what it is like to win a MOC title at Holmdel and I think she'll use that experience to win again on Saturday.
