Boys Group Championships Recap and Video Highlights

Christian Brothers Academy senior Blaise Ferro only raced once this season before the Group Championships and it wasn't even a full 5K, a 12:31 12th place finish in the 4K at the Manhattan Invitational back in October. With so much unknown about the defending Non-Public A Champion's season he made a big splash and threw out any doubt when he ran 15:49 to win his second straight title. This was the third fastest time of the meet and two seconds faster than his 2014 championship, now his fifth state title throughout the cross country, indoor, and outdoor seasons.

That wasn't the only big highlight from the race as Don Bosco Prep and Christian Brothers Academy came back for another showdown after 2014 led to extra runners in the scoring. This year after Blaise Ferro of CBA won individually, Don Bosco crossed the line in the next three spots to take a commanding early lead in the scoring. Led by junior David Rosas in second running 15:58, Patrick Sullivan third 16:25, and Justin Fuhrman fourth 16:25 Don Bosco would hold on to win the Non-Public A team title over the defending champion Christian Brothers Academy 33 points to 35. The two talented squads ran the second and third best team performances of the meet. Don Bosco with a stat line of a 0:57 top five split and 16:30 average. This is Don Bosco's fifth state team title and first since winning four straight years from 2006 to 2009. This also ended CBA's five year streak from 2010 to 2014.
