Local Scene - Bergen County

1) IHA- The Blue Eagles repeat as Bergen Group A champions, dominating the field by placing 6 runners in the top 10 and demolishing two all-time Bergen County records at Darlington on October 20th.  IHA’s team average was 19:19, breaking the previous Darlington team average record of 19:32 which was set by Holy Angles just a year ago.  Once again the A race individual title was claimed by junior Sarah Pagano. She won for the second consecutive year, this time in 18:23, the 7th fastest time ever run on the Darlington course for a Bergen County girl.  Mary Kaye Duff, competing in only her third meet this season placed 3rd in 19:13 and freshman Erin Thompson was 5th in 19:27.  Sarah Mellea and Julie Sinkovitz were 6th and 8th with times of 19:45 and 19:48, and Maggie Senor was 13th in 20:32.  The Blue Eagles will return to Darlington next Saturday when they vie for their first Bergen Meet of Champs title since 2002.

2) HOLY ANGELS- Holy Angels won their third consecutive Group B championship at the Bergen County Group Meet this past Saturday.  AHA annihilated the field, winning by 56 points and placing 3 runners in the top 5 and 6 in the top 10.  Suzana Markolovic placed 2nd in 19:36 and Kat Baselice and Jen Molke were 3rd and 5th recording times of 19:39 and 19:43.  Stephanie Gibney finished in 6th (20:05) and Allison Gadaleta (20:19) and Nicole Shiavone (20:39) were 8th and 9th.  Holy Angles will attempt to defend its BMOC crown on Saturday, October 27th at Darlington.  

3) RIDGEWOOD- The Maroons move up to #3 by way of finishing 2nd in the Bergen Group A race and by defeating previous #3 ranked Northern Highlands by 38 points.  Ridgewood again showed a very tight 5 girl pack with their spread being just 46 seconds.  Sarah Daly and Charlotte Margel placed 9th and 10th in 19:55 and 20:00, followed by Jessica Vasquez who ran 20:27 for 12th place.  Christina Bertelesen and Christina Lewis were 14th and 16th with times of 20:36 and 20:41.  Ridgewood will be competing at Darlington next Saturday, as they go for their unprecedented 25th Bergen Meet of Champs title.    

4) NORHTERN HIGHLANDS- The Highlanders finished 3rd in Group A at Bergen groups behind IHA and Ridgewood.  Charlotte Tregelles was Northern Highland’s top finisher as she placed 7th in 19:46.  She was followed by Katie Nestor (19th), Allie Silverman (20th) and Dylan Palin (21st) in times of 21:00, 21:01 and 21:03.  Expect Highlands to bounce back at The Bergen Meet of Champs next Saturday. 

5) OLD TAPPAN- Finished 4th in Bergen Group A, with a 21:03.2 team average.  Old Tappan’s top individual was Chelsea Corcoran. She placed 11th finishing the 3.1 Darlington course in 20:11.  Allison Dippolito placed 17th in 20:44, Emily Reichback and Morgan Procida were 22nd and 23rd in times of 21:04 and 21:21.  Caitlin Fullam ran a 21:56 for 30th place.  Old Tappan will be in action this Saturday at Darlington, as they have qualified for the Bergen Meet of Champs.

6) RAMSEY- Victorious in Bergen Group C for the third year in row, winning by 29 point over Mahwah. Ramsey had 3 runners in the top 10, led by Alexander Clinton who took the Group C individual title by out leaning Aubrey Larezza of Pascack Hills in a very close duel with both running identical times of 19:35.  Diane Bain took 4th in 20:21, Katherine Wilson was 10th in 21:12 and Allison Fox and Rebecca Schwarz took spots 16 and 20 with times of 22:02 and 22:25.  Ramsey will be competing at the Bergen Meet of Champs at Darlington on October 20th.   

7) WALDWICK- Eradicated the competition in Group D, winning by a landslide with a 72 point margin of victory and a 21:16.8 team average.  Waldwick showcased an excellent pack with a 5 girl spread of 45 seconds, and they placed all 5 runners in the top 10.  Leading the way for Waldwick was senior Brittany Debord, she placed 2nd in a time of 20:58.  She was followed by Kelsey Dunn who took 4th in 21:05 and Jenna Hascup who took 5th in 21:08.  Amanda Duggan took 8th in 21:30 and Paula Gonzalez was 9th in 21:43.  With their victory in Group D, Waldwick qualified for the Bergen Meet of Champs on Saturday. 

 

8) RAMAPO- 5th place finish in Bergen group B, but qualify for Bergen Meet of Champs as wild card.  Junior Erin Mckenna paced the team as she placed 2nd in 19:08.  Caitlin Downey and Meghan Downey were 24th and 26th in times of 21:22 and 21:42.  Colleen Sullivan (22:20) and Jackie Keller (22:22) were 35th and 36th.  Team average was 21:22.8.  

9) TENAFLY- 2nd place finish in Bergen Group B behind Holy Angels, winning on 6th girl tie breaker over #9 Garfield with both teams scoring 80 points.  Marisa Ayvaliotis led the way for Tenafly as she recorded a 20:14 for 7th place.  Ally Siegel was 10th in 20:48; Monica Landy was 18th in 21:40. Nicole Kugler and Sarah Roden finished 21st and 24th in times 21:44 and 22:32.  Tenafly will next compete at the Bergen Meet of Champions. 

10) GARFIELD- 3rd place in Bergen Group B race, losing tie breaker to #8 Tenafly.  Junior Sylwia Dziedzic placed a solid 4th breaking the 20 minute barrier with a 19:41. Dominika Fryc and Paulina Drelich came in only 1 second apart placing 13th and 14th with times of 21:12 and 21:13.  Dybka Aneta and Edith Muzquiz were 22nd and 27th recording times of 21:47 and 22:45.  Team average was 21:19.6.  Garfield qualified for the Bergen Meet of Champs on Saturday, October 27th.
