Local Scene - Bergen County

1)      HOLY ANGELS – A close 4th place finish in the girl’s championship race at The Cougar Invitational catapults Holy Angels back into the #1 spot.  Holy Angels showcased their tight pack with only 40 seconds separating their #1 runner with their #5 runner.  Freshman Jen Molke was the top finisher for Holy Angels, placing 7th in 19:44.  Kat Baselice (19:55), Suzana Markolovic (20:15), Allison Gadaleta (20:20) and Stephanie Gibney (20:24) were the top 5 for AHA.  All 7 varsity runners all broke 21 minutes. It is not known at this time whether Holy Angels will be competing at the Shore Coaches Invitational at Holmdel Park on October 6th.
2)      IHA- The Blue Eagles finished 2nd in the girl’s Varsity 2 race at the Warwick XC Mania Meet this past Saturday. Sarah Pagano was the individual winner by 26 seconds, posting an 18:50.5. Sarah Mellea placed 4th in 19:32.2.  They were followed by freshman Erin Thompson (20:21.0), Maggie Senor (20:36.6) and Sam Antonietti (21:49.9). No invitational this coming week for IHA, as there next meet will be their League Championships on October 9th.
3)      NORTHERN HIGHLANDS-  No invitational this past weekend, but Highlands was in action on Tuesday, September 24th at Garret Mountain where they defeated Mahwah, 18-45, and also beat #5 ranked Old Tappan, 23-32.  Charlotte Tregelles finished 1st in 21:05, and teammate Jenna Stoller was not far behind placing 2nd in 21:09. Katie Nestor was 4th in 21:33 as Highlands finished with a 21:39 team average. Northern Highlands will be competing at the Shore Coaches Invitational at Holmdel Park this coming Saturday.  They will be running in the girls Varsity C race.
4)      RIDGEWOOD-  Ridgewood also did not race at an invitational this past weekend, but successfully defeated Bloomfield, 16-47 at Darlington on Tuesday, September 25th   in a dual meet.  Charlotte Margel was Ridgewood’s top finisher in 20:59 and Sarah Daly just missed dipping under 21 minutes as she finished in 21:03.  Their top 7 all broke 22 minutes.  Ridgewood will be in action this Saturday at Holmdel Park, at the Shore Coaches Invitational.
5)      OLD TAPPAN- Did not run this past Saturday.  Defeated Mahwah, 19-44, and lost to Northern Highlands, 23-32 at a double dual on Monday, September 24th at Garret Mountain.  Senior Allison Dippolito was 3rd in the race in 21:15.  Next race is unknown.
6)      RAMSEY- Had double dual meet this past Monday at Garret Mountain, racking up victories over Bergenfield and Demarest, with scores of 17-46 and 25-31.
7)      RAMAPO- 2 more dual meet victories over Indian Hills and Pascack Valley last Monday at Garret, with scores of 18-42 and 15-50.  Erin Mckenna posted a 20:53. 
8)      DEMAREST- Demarest defeated Bergenfield 17-46 last Monday, but lost to Ramsey 25-31 in double dual action at Garret Mountain.  Jillian Rothschild cruised to another victory in 20:26.  Not known when next invitational will be.
 9)  PARAMUS- Placed 6th at the Stewart Memorial Meet at Warinanco.  Patty Hannon finished in 7th on the 5250 meter course in 20:36.51. Also defeated Montclair on Tuesday, September 25th at dual meet. 
10)  WALDWICK- Make debut on rankings list with 4th place finish in the varsity    1-2 race at Maroon Invitational this past Saturday at Garret Mountain.  Senior Brittany Debord placed 5th in 21:03.11 and Junior Kelsey Dunn finished 20th in 21:53.55.  5 girls team average was 22:43.63.
