WHAT A MEET! As a track and field fan this was a fantastic meet to be at. Records and US#1s falling left and right, the meet ran quickly, and the vibes during the races were electric. The Distance Medley Relay seeded heat was something to watch, started the meet with a US#1 by more than ten seconds! The Freehold Twp girls went for it early and controlled the entire race en route to a winning time of 12:04.69! The race was brought home by sophomore Ciara Roche in an impressive 1600m split of 5:03.1! 

 

The Freehold Twp girls weren't done there; they had their sights set on the 4x800m. During this race they would face a Columbia and Lenape team who were in a battle for first place in points at that time. Freehold pulled their off the gun magic though and stayed clear of any danger by getting out ahead early thanks to the quick Adrian Vitello's 2:16 opening leg. As Emily Bracher anchored in the 4x800m gold with a 2:19 split she also brought home the team's All-Group State Relays Meet Record and US#1 time of 9:19.51! 

Those weren't the only great performances being posted, the Columbia girls took three State Gold Medal sets home Friday afternoon thanks to an All-Group Meet Record in both the 4x200m (1:43.88!!) and the 4x400m (3:57.35!!) as well as a US#1 and All-Group Meet Record in the Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 4:08.84!! 

 

The Columbia girls were in a points battle early on with Lenape but as we headed toward the end of the meet Columbia's talent just broke through and they poured on a 46 point total, a 22 point lead! This was the Columbia team's second in a row and 10th title overall, they tie Hopewell Valley for the most won by a girls team at the State Relays. Hopewell Valley last won a title back in 2010 during the Group III meet, which was the end to a 9 year streak!
