Fennekohl Tops in Senior Race

Ocean City\'sr John Fennekohl marked himself as someone to watch after winning the Senior race today. Fennekohl ran strong from the front and held off a late challenge from Haddonfield\'s Mike Burke and Jeromy Rodgers of Haddon Heights to take the win in 9:54 over a 3100m course that had to be reworked this morning because of flooding on the original layout. Burke and Rodgers were timed at 9:55. Mike Keebler of Holy Spirit also broke 10:00, finishing 4th in 9:56.
The fastest boys times of the day belonged to Juniors Brian Leung of West Windsor-Plainsboro So. and Alex Yersak of Cherokee. Lueng out dueled Yersak of the to win in 9:47 to Yersaks\' 9:52.
In the other Boys class races, Boo Vitez of Haddonfield took the Freshman race in 10:17, while Brett Johnson of Ocean City joined his senior teammate on the podium by winning the Soph event in 10:07.
In a unique scoring system which tallys the scores of the 1st runner in each of the four class races, Ocean City also won the team title with 30 points to runnerup Haddon Heights who scored 38.
On the Girls side, Amanda Goetschius (11:28) of Delsea got the better of Cranfords\' Laura Gallo (11:49) in an early North vs South match up. Goetschius\' time was the fastest girls mark of the day. In the Freshman race, Chelsea Ley of Kingsway took the win in 11:36, a time which would have won both the Soph and Jr. races. Clare Buck of Hopewell Valley won in the Soph division with a time of 11:44 and Moorestown\'s Brianna Rodgers was the victor in the Junior race as she ran 11:46.
Hopewell Valley won the Girls team title with a score of 26 points. Moorestown took second with 51.
The Middle School races were won by Felicia O\'Donnell of Desea MS in 8:41 and Matt Donohue of Toms River east MS in 7:58.
