In my first feature interview in November of 2010, Joe Lanzalotto and I spent about an hour with Kurt Wayton, the XC and Distance Coach at West Windsor-Plainsboro HS South (Princeton Jct.). It was insightful and entertaining to talk with a teacher/coach who truly seemed to "get it".

Ahhh, SPRING!
Calendar Spring actually started 2 weeks ago, on Thursday March 20th. For the athletes coaches and fans of our sport, "Spiritual Spring" started this week with the beginning of the 2014 Outdoor Track&Field season here in New Jersey.

NJ MileSplit's very own Pat Montferrat was on site for an interesting presentation on Nutritional Tips for Athletes by Hillarie Zoe Scannelli of Impact Fitness. The presentation was recorded as well as some of the Q&A afterwards.
With a few exceptions, Week 8 of the 2013 XC season consisted of the balance of County/Conference Championsips. Lots of expected outcomes along with a few surprises. Some teams are getting healthy and looking to fulfill the promises of the pre/early season, while others are looking to make that leap to the elite ranks. For the NJ TOP TEN haqrrier squads, it was a mixed bag.

Despite all of the controversy surrounding participation in the Championship Races (less so on the Bys side) the 2013 SCI was very competitive, producing sone fast times, exciting, surprising results and a lot of movement in the TOP TEN...
On a Jekyll (cool, seasonable) and Hyde (hot, humid) Saturday at Holmdel Park, the majority of Jerser harriers took their mid-term XC tests. While the results might be somewhat inconclusive due to some teams withdrawing for one or anther resons, they still pointed to who to keep an eye on and shook up the TOP TEN.
Week 4 of the 2013 XC season closes out not only the the first month of the campaign, but also leads us to the symbolic "Mid term Exam", The Shore Coaches Invitational on Saturday 10/5. See who got through the Class races, Shoot Outs and other early season events as the TOP TEN Boys HS Cross Country teams in the Garden State.

The 3rd week certainly picked up speed as Jersey harriers competed in almost a dozen meets in NJ and surrounding environs. Lots of great performances in a variety of distances and race formats.

Week #2 of the 2013 XC Season is in the books and with very little action. Still, it is a Weekly Rankings Poll. There was a little movement in the TOP TEN as the state's harriers gear up for the first big weekend of the season. See her moved up or down along with our Athletes of The Week.
