The Group 2 State Relays had a few record breaking performances. Two of the historic performances came in the field and two went to the track.

In the shot put relay Rahway's Jordan West and Jay-quan Johnson broke the state record for a combined total mark with their 116-05.5. West thew 65-06 NJ#1 US#4 and Johnson 50-11.5 bringing the team to that state championship total. The old state record was set at 116-03.5 by Morristown's Nick Vena and Paul Caravaglia during the 2011 Morris County Relay Championships. That was also the meet where Nick Vena threw the individual state record of 71-09.5.

During the pole vault relay sisters Lauren and Leah Saifi of Governor Livingston tied the All-Group meet record with a total clearance of 23-00. Lauren's vault was an indoor PR of 10-06 and Leah is now NJ#1 US#10 at 12-6. The 23-00 total performance they tied was from 2012 when Hillsborough's Emily Shipley and Marlena Sabatino both cleared 11-06. You can watch the interview with the Saifi girls below, also catch video of Leah's 12-06 vault right here!

Onto the track records, in the 4x200 meter the Deptford boys broke the Group 2 Relay meet record with a run of 1:32.20 NJ#8. The previous record of 1:32.47 was set by Willingboro in 2012.

The meet finished with a tied meet record in the boys 4x400 meter by Matawan who ran NJ#3 with a 3:26.60. The Group 2 record they matched was set by Rahway in 2009. This was just a glimpse of the great meet Matawan had. The school won the boys team title with 49 total points, also winning in the shuttle hurdles 32.45 and high jump 11-10. High jumpers Noah Colleton and Dave Alston, interview at the top of the article, cleared 5-06 and 6-04 respectively. This is Matawan's third boys state relay title all-time.

The girls team championship went to Haddonfield, their sixth state relay title moving up to fourth all-time among schools with championships at this event. They won two events en route to the victory, the distance medley relay at 12:32.80 NJ#8 and the sprint medley with 4:14.49 NJ#2 US#6. They clinched the win out of the second to last heat in the 4x400 meter, placing second overall with a 4:08.71 behind West Essex' 4:04.72 NJ#5.
