Week 1 Highlights | New Jersey Opens Season on a High Note

Bishop Loughlin Games

What a great meet Bishop Loughlin came out to be! The meet generated 11 total US#1 performances, two of those belonging to New Jersey athletes. At the state level our leaderboards were riddled with 14 athletes who's time or mark came from the Loughlin showdown.

Let's start with the national leaders Alyssa Wilson and Alyssa Aldridge. Wilson didn't waste any time and destroyed her own state record in the shot put with a mark of 55-9.5 US#1, her previous best was a 54-11 from last season. She also won the weight throw with a US#2 performance of 57-5.75, watch her throws and read more about her here

Alyssa Aldridge also broke a record, the Ocean Breeze facility record in the 2 mile run, when she ran 10:37.65 US#1. This was a record she already owned from last year when she won this meet with a 10:42.25.  She's coming off a great cross country season where she won her second straight Meet of Champions title as well as Foot Locker Northeast Regionals, she'll be taking some time off to rest up for performances later this season.

Some other great performances from New Jersey girls included... Kaira Brown of Kent Place School, only a sophomore she placed sixth in the 600 meter dash with a 1:37.54 NJ#1 US#9. Winslow Twp won their race in the 4x400 meter relay with a 4:05.32 NJ#1 US#9 run.  Kishona McCray of Central HS finished 5th with an 8.42 in the 55 meter hurdles. Tiffany Bautista of Paramus Catholic hit an indoor PR and jumped a 36-11.5 NJ#1 in the triple jump. Weeshamar Senatus of Hudson Catholic finished fifth in the 1,000 meter running 3:06.00 NJ#1.  Flora Ahiarakwe of Winslow Twp ranks NJ#1 thanks to her 41.17 in the 300 meter.

On the boys side Rey Sellaro of North Hunterdon placed second in the mile with a 4:26.49 NJ#1 US#10. Ronald Kigen of St. Benedict's Prep placed top three at this meet for the second straight year finishing second at 9:47.03 NJ#1. In the 1,000 meter junior Jacob Tyndale of Rancocas Valley took fourth running 2:36.82 NJ#1, over a 20 second PR for him in that event. In the sprints Byron Simmons of St. Benedict's Prep finished fourth with a 1:23.85 NJ#1 US#7 in the 600 meter and Amir Brock of Egg Harbor Twp lead the 300 meter prelims with a 34.47 NJ#1 US#2. For Brock that was about a second PR for him in the 300 meter.
