Six Things to Look for at State Relays This Weekend!

If you can get over to the shot put circles check them out!

The Garden State shot put scene is on fire right now.

New Jersey currently has the US#1 and US#2 athletes in the girls shot put, four girls in the top 12. Donovan Catholic's Alyssa Wilson and Nickolette Dunbar of Whippany Park have been re-writing the girls throwing books the past few seasons and are on a tear again this year.

Alyssa Wilson opened up the 2015-2016 indoor season with a national junior class record and New Jersey state record of 54-5 at the Bishop Loughlin Games!! That still ranks her US#1 and she is currently the only athlete over 50 feet this season. To add to this she is only a junior.. She currently holds the Toms River venue's record with her 53-11 throw this season at the STCA Season Opener meet

Nickolette Dunbar has been adding to her impressive resume as well this season. She just recently hit a PR mark of 49-10 at the Cliff Back Invitational this past weekend. A good sign that we could see her over 50 feet soon if not at this meet.

Jessica Molina of Westwood and Amarys Berry of Hackensack have also been lighting it up ranked in the top 12 nationally.

Even on the boys side we have four athletes in the top 20 nationally. There is a great battle going on for the state lead between Jordan West of Rahway 58-6.75 and Luke Grodeska of St. Rose 58-4. We could see the state lead switched and or improved by either of them this weekend.

St Rose's relay team is loaded with Grodeska leading the way ranked US#10 NJ#2 and his teammate Andrew Huisman currently US#22 NJ#5 at 55-8.5.

Jaylon Jorge of Morristown and Dan Gilligan of Toms River East aren't too far behind for that state lead either at 56-10 and 56-2 respectively

Its a great time to see some deep shot put throws if you haven't witnessed them before.
