Haddonfield junior Briana Gess won her second career Group 2 cross country title on Saturday, her previous was won in 2013 as a freshmen. She crossed the line running 18:41, six seconds ahead of sophomore Shannon Goria of River Dell in second with 18:47. Gess now heads to the Meet of Champions where she won her freshmen year and unfortunately had to drop out of due to illness her sophomore season. Her first place finish at Groups helped advance her team which finished third with 124 points and an average of 20:44.
The team title was won by the Rumson-Fair Haven girls with 91 points a 1:11 top five split and an average of 20:48. This was the school's fourth state title the others coming in 2013, 2011, and 1999. They were led by senior Emily Hellman who finished 10th running 20:07. The Voorhees girls took the second spot with 109 points and a 20:49 average led by freshmen Lauren Wagner in fifth running 19:33.
