New Providence senior Jillian Turner won her first individual state title on Saturday taking first in the Group 1 race with a time of 19:41. This was also the school's first individual champion at the event. Going in the race was between Turner and Rachel Suss of Metuchen, it seemed like a close race at the two mile mark but when we saw them again at the finish Turner was well ahead of the rest of the field. When Suss, the defending champion, emerged from the woods she was unfortunately experiencing difficulties and had to drop out of the race with about 200 meters to go. Nicole Ohannesian of North Warren finished second with a time of 20:17.
Turner's one card didn't go to waste in the team race either, New Providence came in as defending champions and made it two in a row with 57 points and an average of 20:56. The school's third team title with victories coming in 1985, 2014, and now 2015. Mountain Lakes and Kinnelon made up the other two advancing teams with 73 and 78 points respectively.
