Girls Highlights

Some quick highlights from Ocean County Championships Wednesday night. We'll start with the girls and the NJ#2 and US#6 shot put mark by Donovan Catholic's star sophomore Alyssa Wilson. Measuring in at 43-6.25 she won her first individual county championship as well as set a personal best pertaining BOTH outdoor and indoor circles. That mark was the 10th best shot put mark thrown at the "Bubble" according to our NJ MileSplit all-time list

Once again the girls shot put circle is brewing for a fantastic year, earlier this season we already saw one of the best throws we've seen indoor in a while and multiple girls are vying for that top spot. Full girls shot put rankings here

On the track for the girls Lacey Twp's Abby Gauthier won the 3200m with a NJ#7 time of 11:41.45, an indoor personal best and her first individual county championship win. She also placed 3rd in the 1600m with a 5:20.06.

Alexus Vuocolo of Toms River South won the girls 1600m with a time of 5:15.36, apparently after Pinelands HS star Lauren Zodl was DQ'd. The 5:15.36 places Vuocolo at NJ#6, she was followed by second place Kaitlyn Mooney of Southern Regional running 5:18.00 for NJ#10. Full girls state 1600m rankings here.

We don't have team scores as of yet but our on-site photographer filled us in on the Southern Regional girls win. With their fifth straight Ocean County title they were led by a very well rounded attack. Adding up their contributing scores - Bailey Gellis won the 55m dash with a 7.59, Elizabeth Chartier won the 800m with a NJ#5 run of 2:24.14. The above mentioned Kaitlyn Mooney gathered 8 points in the 1600m placing second and doubled back in the 3200m for a third place finish running 11:52.72. In the 55m hurdles 12 points came from second place Amaysia Lake, 8.75, and Kelly Knudsen in fourth, 8.94. They also acquired 3 points in the 400m dash with Shannon Lytle and Capri Laurence placing 5th and 6th. They even added onto the track point total with a winning 4x400m running 4:14.59. That is 59 points on the track alone! It didn't stop there as the field added 12.5 points to bring it to the 71.5 total.

Boys Highlights

Now onto the boys! They also produced a great shot put mark with Dan Gilligan of Toms River East hitting a mark of 53-6.5 which is NJ#6 this season and an indoor personal best for him. Only in his junior year this was also his first career county title.

Ryan Rafferty of Jackson Memorial squeaked into the NJ top 10 list with a NJ#9 run of 4:32.24 to win his first indoor county championship title.

Kyle Mueller of Brick Memorial won the 3200m with a time of 9:50.50, that ranks him NJ#3 so far this season. His first county championship on the track, he had won the 2014 cross country Ocean County Championships with a run of 15:35 in the 5000m.

We move onto the 55m dash where Ricky Carberry of Toms River North ran 6.66 for the county title and NJ#7. This is significant because his points also helped his team to another county team championship!

A run down of the other scoring contributors - Justin Farley gathered 14 points for the TR North boys, third in the 800m with a 2:04.71 and second in the 1600m with a 4:38.13! JP Flavin also posted big numbers gathering 12 points between the second place finish in the 3200m,  9:59.51, and fourth place finish in the 1600m running 4:40.78. Evan Boyce was well above the competition in the pole vault with a T-NJ#9 vault of 12-06. Kevin Benson marked 51-03.75 in the shot put for second. Finishing up, Kyle Holtz fifth in pole vault 11-00, Sam Soriero fourth 5-08 in the high jump, Demetrious Fitzpatrick fifth in the 55m Hurdles 8.38, Noah Reilly sixth in the 3200m run with a 10:26.14, in the 800m Nicholas Hund fifth with 2:06.70 and Christian Bermudez sixth with 2:07.64. And finally the team finished up it's title with a third place finish in the 4x400m running 3:40.19.

Once team scores are sent in we will update the meet page and be sure to check out the photos by Mae Kellert.
