Peddie's boys cross country program has the same philosophy as the school's — every runner should achieve his personal level of excellence. Since each runner brings different talents and abilities to the program, the goal is to develop those talents so the individual can achieve their best performances.

The girls' and boys' teams train and travel together, but the meets are scored separately.

Teaching the principles of discipline while keeping the workouts varied and fun, coach Chris Bright continues the tradition of maintaining the boys' team on the short list of contenders among the prep school ranks. The boys have posted a dual meet record of 17-1 over the past two seasons and the 2011 campaign is promising more of the same results.

The resurgence of the program is tied heavily to the impressive turnout of incoming freshman who are quick to follow the lead of the veteran runners. Time management, leadership skills, teamwork, the competitive drive, are but a part of the cross country agenda and Peddie experience.

Coaches work hard to develop training strategies that will maximize performance while recognizing the academic and extracurricular requirements of the school. Training combines long-distance road work, trail work at local parks, and interval track sets, and is designed to develop a runner’s endurance, power and speed. Running mechanics, recovery techniques and nutrition are also emphasized. Above all, it is the program’s goal to make training “enjoyable” while promoting team camaraderie.
