Chesson won three events on the day in the 55 meter dash, 300 meter dash, and long jump as well as ran opening leg on the winning 4x200 meter relay.

Robert E. Lee\'s Sean Holston nearly took down a long standing 300 meter national record of 33.19 set in 1986 by clocking a US #2 all-time 300 meter performance of 33.21 at the College Games in New York! The time this weekend now makes Holston the fastest Virginian prep ever the event surpassing now US #6 all-time Lashawn Merritt at 33.51. Meanwhile, Fork Union\'s Axel Mostrag won the junior 1000 meter run at the Collegiate Games over a loaded high school field in a US #9 all-time performance of 2:26.11. National record holder Alan Webb is the only Virginian prep ever to run faster for 1000 meters. Photos to left of Holston and Mostrag by David Fleenor. At the St. Christopher\'s Mid-Atlantic Track Clash, the track facility proved itself to be one of the fastest 200 meter flat tracks in the country with the performances turned in. There were a total of four US #2 flat track times recorded with Midlothian\'s Jason Witt in the 3200 meter run (9:17.57), Cox\'s Eddie Judge in the 1600 meter run (4:16.28), and the Manchester boys in the 4x200 (1:30.60) and 4x400 (3:22.44) meter relays.

The East Coast Invitational continues to be one of the longest standing high school indoor invitationals in the state of Virginia as well as the country and continues to bring in some of the state\'s best talent. The first East Coast Invitational was held in 1960 and this year\'s meet will be the 48th annual. The meet use to be hosted inside the Richmond Coliseum on a wooden banked track before moving over to the Arthur Ashe Center in 1983. The 2007 edition of the East Coast Invitational will feature Shanneka Claiborne, Aramis Massenburg, Rachel Butler, and Anthony Chesson as some of the state\'s top athletes in the meet with the Manchester boys and Midlothian girls as the top teams attending.

MileStat.com\'s Brandon Miles interviews Manchester senior Anthony Chesson at the Wally Gilbert Invitational held on Saturday, December 16th at Liberty University\'s Tolsma Track Center in Lynchburg, Virginia. Chesson won the 55 meter dash in 6.48 (6.47 in prelims), ran opening leg on a state leading 1:31 4x200 meter relay squad, and anchored the 4x400 meter relay to victory.

No suprise with the amount of competiton and quality of track found at the Freeman Center\'s Vince Brown Track for the CNU Showcase that many of the state\'s best season times were turned in at the two day event in Newport News. In all, 14 state best peformances were recorded at the meet.

If you could set up a booth and sell sprinters\' speed, junior Anthony Chesson would be the richest kid at Manchester High School. Since that\'s impossible, he\'ll settle for being the fastest. Gene Bowen has witnessed a lot of fleet feet come and go in his 20 years of coaching Lancers track, so when he says, \"Anthony\'s the fastest kid we\'ve ever had,\" you take notice. Chesson snapped Manchester\'s 100-meter record with a 10.94 as a freshman. With speed to burn, it\'s no wonder his nickname is \"Smoke.\"

Christopher Newport University will host its second high school invitational of the season this weekend with the CNU Showcase. The two day meet held Friday and Saturday, January 7th and 8th at the Freeman Center\'s Vince Brown Track will be the start of several competitive meets after winter break with the state\'s best athletes going head to head. This weekend\'s meet will feature three of the state\'s biggest stars in Michael Morrison, Francena McCorory, and Angela Jenkins.

Athletes gathered over winter break in between the Christmas and New Year\'s Holidays to compete in the annual track and field clinic invitational held at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond. Several solid performances were turned in throughout the meet.
