Joe Dragon won High Point's first boys individual state cross country title on Saturday winning the Group 2 race with a time of 15:52. Dragon held a stable lead throughout the course as seen at the mile, two mile, and finish in the video embedded above. He was also one of just five boys to run sub-16 minutes between all the group races. William Daly was the closest to him in second with a time of 15:52. Both seemed to be on a quick cruise control coming into the finish chute will be exciting to see how fast they go at the Meet of Champions.
In the team race Voorhees entered the weekend ranked fourth in the state and as favorites for the Group 2 title. They did not disappoint, with an average of 16:35 and 46 points they ran the fifth best team performance of the meet according to the merge. They were led by senior Robert Whitney who took third with a time of 16:07 and must have had a strong third mile. We view him back in fifth at the two mile mark in the race video.
This wasn't a given title however as the Haddonfield boys put up a fight just 14 points behind in second. Haddonfield averaged 16:45 and were led by senior Greg Pelose in fourth with a time of 16:11.
