Hillsborough High School's Brandon Tubby has chosen Northeastern University for next fall to compete and continue his education. He will be running middle distance.

"I chose Northeastern because I felt like more than just another recruit," he said, "Mark Rinker, who is going to be my coach, has had faith in me as an athlete since the beginning of the recruiting process."

Tubby won the 1600m at Somerset County Championships both indoor and outdoor last year with times of 4:30.60 and 4:22.45. This cross country season he won the senior race at the Thompson Park Class Meet with a time of 16:28. He has a best of 16:37 at Holmdel.

The Northeastern bound athlete also stated that the Boston area and campus along with their academic fit were major points behind the decision. "They have my major, architectural studies and real estate development -- and being in a city like Boston is a great place to study this field."

Other schools he visited: UPenn and Brown
