This past week, on June 17th, Nicholas Medeiros of Old Bridge HS completed a 600m time trial where he clocked a 1:19.8h. As a junior this past winter he ran to a close second at the Meet of Champions with an 800m PR of 1:52.76.

"My main goal with the time trial was to break 1:20 and test out my speed over a shorter distance," Medeiros said. "The first 400 was pretty aggressive, but I tried to save a little bit in the tank for a solid finish. I had never ran a 600 before so I was pretty happy with my time."

Medeiros is the top returner in the state for the 2021 indoor (1:52.76) and outdoor (1:52.86) seasons in the 800m and is among the top returners for the 400m (49.09) as well.

When asked about his goals heading into senior year Medeiros said not only is he hungry for that first state title, but he plans to open his range a bit as well.

"For my senior year I definitely want to get my first 800 meter state title. Another goal of mine is to become more versatile and see more success in other events from the 400 to the 1600. I know that I’ve established myself as a well rounded 800 runner, but I feel that I could be successful in more than one race."

Medeiros was paced for 400m by Hazem Miawad, an indoor NJSIAA Meet of Champions winner for Old Bridge in the 800m in 2015.
