Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) tied for 10th in the women's pole vault at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon hosted by Claremont Mudd Scripts College.
Fellenbaum opted in at the opening height of 3.40 meters and cleared on her first attempt. She ran into some trouble at the second height of 3.55m, but was able to clear on her third and final attempt. She and 16 others from the original field of 19 competitors moved up to 3.70 which Fellenbaum cleared on her first attempt.
She knocked the bar off on each of her three attempts at 3.80m, as did four other competitors and they all finished in a tie for 10th place. Fellenbaum made the first outdoor NCAA appearance for the Crusaders after having made the first appearance at the Indoor NCAA Championships back in March where she finished tied for ninth.
Linfield senior Catherine Street won the outdoor event having cleared 4.20m. Street also won the women's pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
