There are so many great boys track and field athletes in New Jersey. But who is the best all-around athlete in the state?
While there are certainly lots of great candidates to consider for that honor, after what he did this past weekend, Seamus Corcoran has to be in that conversation!!!
Corcoran, a sophomore at Pope John, put on a sensational show at the adidas Track Nationals Championships in Greensboro, N.C., by flexing his multi-talented skills and producing one of the best performances in New Jersey history in the decathlon, racking up 6,298 points to finish first!
The very impressive 6,298 points by Corcoran in the grueling two-day, 10-event decathlon broke the sophomore state record and ranks No. 7 in New Jersey history with the high school implements.

In just his second time competing in the event, Corcoran smashed the New Jersey sophomore decathlon record of 5,928, which Andrew Ghizzone of Union Catholic scored at the 2012 New Balance Nationals Championships. Corcoran's 6,298 points is 822 more than his previous best that he scored last year.
Corcoran, who won three of the 10 events, had two PRs and broke a school record during the competition. His march to the 244-point victory began on Saturday by finishing 11th in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 11.79 (693 points), winning the long jump with a school-record leap of 21-9¾ (732 points), placing 15th in the shot put at 34-4¾ (515 points), tying for eighth in the high jump at 5-8 (569 points), and finishing second in the 400-meter dash in 52.10 (720 points).
On Sunday, Corcoran was 12th in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.80 (645 points), seventh in the discus at 108-9½ (527 points), won the pole vault at 14-3¼ (716 points), won the javelin with a throw of 167-9¼ (605 points), and ran 4:57.13 to place third in the 1,500-meter run.
Corcoran's leap of 21-9¾ broke the school record of 21-9½ set in 2007 by Jeremy Tucker. It was the second school record Corcoran broke this season. At the Meet of Champions on June 3, he cleared 14-6 to break the school pole vault record and finish fifth.
