There have been plenty of freshmen who have burst on the scene and made an immediate impact across New Jesey over the years. But there hasn't been anyone quite like Abbey Robisky before.
Robisky, a freshman at Union Catholic, is just built different.
She has a rare blend of raw power, a big engine, fearlessness, poise, and grit, which have combined to make her one of the greatest freshmen in U.S. history in the 800 and one of the best rookies we have ever seen in NJ in the 400.
Robisky flexed all her talented tools once again on Sunday when she squared off against many of the top half milers in the country at the Brooks PR Invitational at Renton Memorial Stadium in Washington.
Robisky, the lone freshman in the field, blasted a 2:05.24 to place sixth in the 800, just behind Carter Torrence of Virginia (5th in 2:05.09). Torrence won the 800 at the 2025 Adidas Indoor National Championships and was second in the 800 at the New Balance Indoor Nationals this past March.
The 2:05.24 by Robisky, who had splits of 1:02.15/1:03.09, smashed the NJ freshmen record, places her No. 4 on the U.S. all-time list for a freshman, and moves her up to No. 11 all-time in NJ history.
Robisky broke the NJ freshman record of 2:06.04 that Dylan Hosty of Haddonfield, another all-time great freshman, ran at the Meet of Champions last Wednesday. Read all about Hosty's historic season here.
Robisky now owns 5 NJ freshmen state records!!
Her other four state freshmen records came this past indoor season in the 400 (54.35), 500 (1:13.49), 600 (1:33.66) and the 800 (2:08.68).
Robisky has also been cooking in the 400 this season!
Just four days before the Brooks meet, Robisky finished third in the 400 at the Meet of Champion in 54.36, which moved her past all-time great Olivia Baker of Columbia (54.46) and all the way up to No. 4 on NJ's all-time freshmen list. Robisky is also now No. 8 in the nation among freshmen this season.
Even more impressively, Robisky is now the only girl in U.S. high school history to ever run under 54.50 in the 400 and under 2:06.00 in the 800 as a freshman!!
In the 400, the only 3 freshmen in NJ history who have run faster than Robisky are all NJ legends-Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of Union Catholic (53.78), Sianni Wynn of Pennsauken (53.97) and English Gardner of Eastern (54.00).
Robisky wil take one more crack at trying to break McLaughlin-Levrone's NJ freshman record when she runs the 400 at the New Balance Nationals later this month at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
In addition to all of her individual highlights, Robisky has also been a hammer for Union Catholic on the relays.
Indoors, Robisky ran the 800 when UC smashed the national record in the DMR at New Balance Nationals, and this season she ran the 400 leg when her squad shattered the national SMR record at the Arcadia Invitational, and ran the 800 leg at the Penn Relays to help her team win the DMR for the second straight year and break the meet record!
