New Jersey's sprint squads made their presence felt when Bergen Catholic, Winslow, and Union Catholic all advanced to the 4x100 Northeast Championship race during the qualifying heats on Friday at 130th Penn Relays are being held at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The 8-team final is scheduled for Saturday at 4:25 p.m.
Bergen Catholic ran 41.59, Winslow went 41.63 and Union Catholic ran a school record 41.89. Last year, Bergen Catholic was 3rd and Winslow 8th in the Northeast Championship.
UC junior Jalele Williams, who had a big day by running on the second leg on the 4x100 after placing third in the long jump (23-6.25), said he feels his team has more in them.
"Our biggest goal has always been to break 41, so that's what we will be going for tomorrow when we try to win that race,'' said Williams.
Williams said he and teammates had something to prove ,
"Last year we ran 43 here and last week we went 42 low, so we wanted to come here and show everyone what we were capable of,'' said Williams. We had real good sticks today, but they can be ever cleaner tomorrow. "
