BRONX, NY – Sophomore Ewelina Marut led the field at the NJIT Classic on Van Cordtlandt Park course Sunday afternoon.

Marut, the overall winner, covered the 6k course at 24:31.93 for NJIT.  Marut's time was two minutes and 34 seconds faster than her time last season.  Freshman Catherine Cohen finished in the top 10 with a time of 25:47.22. 

Other Highlanders represented in the race were -- Vincia Jackson, Kelsey Johnson, Ybranhina Cohen, Amanda Hefferan, Daisy Gallegos, Aya Elsekhely and Catherine Karnas.

Johnson improved her time two minutes from last season as did Gallegos.  Elsekhely made her season debut as a Highlander.

The top finisher on the men's side for NJIT was Brian Mendez.  Mendez placed third overall with a time of 27:15.36 followed by freshman Daniel Rondon at 27:50.47.

Sophomore Ben Singleton finished in the top 10 for the Highlanders clocking in at 28:02.08.

The NJIT men's cross country team returns to action on October 1 at the Paul Short Invitational while the women return on October 10 at the Highlander Invitational.
