
History was made Saturday at the Bennett Center in Toms River when both the Audubon girls and the Woodstown boys captured the first indoor state championships in program history.
Fayer Fuels Audubon Girls
Audubon rode a dominant all-around performance from senior Riley Fayer to a 44-37 victory over Metuchen and Ramsey to win the Group 1 title.
Fayer accounted for 26 points in a spectacular distance triple. She won the 1,600 in 5:02.97 and added runner-up finishes in the 800 (2:18.74) and 3,200 (10:59.42).
Audubon's depth proved decisive. Senior Morganna Makuszewski cleared 10-0 to finish fourth in the pole vault. Senior Alaina Copsetta was fourth in the 400 (1:00.57), and Emma Camm finished fifth in the 1,600 (5:23.81).
The team title wasn't decided until the 4x400 relay, where Audubon's Sophia Rizzo, Keira Baumann, Kylie Tocco and Copsetta delivered a clutch runner-up finish in 4:11.24 to clinch the historic championship.
Woodstown Boys Deliver Breakthrough Performance
The Woodstown boys continued their historic season by racking up 35 points to outscored Glen Rock and Ramssey, which finished tied for second with28 points. Haddon Township and Camden tied for fourth with 20, while three-time defending champion Glassboro was sixth with 18.
Senior Josh Crawford led the way for Woodstown by winning the 800 in 1:57.62, placing sixth in the 400, and anchoring the title-clinching 4x400 relay, which ran 3:31.03 to finish first.
Also for Woodstown, senior Karson Chew placed third in 1:58.87 and ran on the relay, senior Jacob Marino placed second in the 1,600 (4:28.65) and ran on the 4x400, and senior Anthony Costello ran a leg on the 4x400.
