Day One of GWC Outdoor T&F Championships

Day One Results

YANKTON, SD
– Junior weight thrower Josh Dolisca placed second in the men's hammer throw after the first day of the 2010 Great West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded at Williams Field.

Dolisca, the Highlanders top weight thrower, collected eight points for NJIT with a distance of 47.31m.  Texas-Pan American's Oscar Barrera was the winner with a throw of 51.58m.

Sophomore distance runner Christian Baumbach paced the Highlanders in the men's 10000 meter run with a time of 30:58.15, good for third place and six points for NJIT while senior Umar Saeed followed in behind Baumbach at 31:07.36.  Baumbach now holds the school-record in the men's 10000 meter run surpassing Saeed's old mark of 32:01:11 (Yale Invitational; 5.12.06).

After four events in the men's heptathlon, Tim Esposito, is in seventh with 2,577 points and Martin Craig has combined for 2,019 points.

Houston Baptist leads with 26 points after day one, while NJIT has 19 points, Texas-Pan American has 14 points and defending champion Utah Valley has 11 points. Rounding out the men's scoring on the first day of competition were Seattle with four points, North Dakota with three points and host South Dakota with one point.

On the women's side, freshman Ewelina Marut finished 12th in the women's 10000 meter run clocking in at 41:04.23.  Marut broke her own school-record of 41:14.12 (CTC Outdoor T&F Championships; 4.18.10).

After four events in the women's heptathlon Nicole Kerrison has 1,945 points.

Competition resumes Friday starting with the multi-events at 11 a.m. (CT), while field events begin at noon and running events begin at 5:30 p.m.
