Men's Cross Country

Cross Country and Track & Field Banquet

 

NEWARK, NJ -- The NJIT men's and women's cross country, Indoor and Outdoor track & field teams held their combined year end banquet on Thursday, May 6 at the Faculty/Staff Dining Lounge in the Campus Center. 

It was an evening filled with camaraderie and laughter.  Most of the team was able to attend except for those in class or presenting their final Architecture projects.  Present for the presentation was team administrator Abbey Strong , Associate AD Alexis Schug , and the team NEXUS faculty mentor Judith Redling.   Fellow runner Dr. Donald Sebastian stopped by to say hello and congratulate the team for a great year.

Coach Al Alonso recapped the year and thanked the student-athletes for their hard work and dedication at the four community service projects they participated in. 

Coach Alonso highlighted that for the 24 hour relay was once again a success.  It was organized by Strong and fellow SAAC team members Amanda Hefferan, Katherine Joseph, Jonathan Nunez and Joe Ju

He congratulated all the athletes that obtained Great West All Academic in the Fall as well as the women's cross country team which received their 1st NCAA All Academic team award at the D1 level (our first year eligible for the award) and encouraged them to repeat in the Spring.  He also acknowledged that the men cross country team had their best year ever setting new low five person team averages and included our first Great West Champion as well as our first IC4A Champion Christian Baumbach

The men and women indoor and outdoor track & field teams broke 48 school records combined which also included our first track & field Great West champion Josh Dolisca

Coach Alonso then proceeded to present Varsity Letters followed by Outstanding Performance awards.  Recipients of this years' Outstanding Performance Awards were: Lesley Hendricks, Megan Higgins, Nicole Kerrison, Dolisca, Umar Saeed, Baumbach, Ruben Santos, Brian Mendez, Michael GurlaczVanessa Escalera, Ewelina Marut, and Tim Esposito.

NJIT will close out the 2010 season at the 2010 Great West Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of South Dakota this weekend.
