New Jersey's Marco Langon and Seth Clevenger left lots of smoke on the track by dropping a pair of historic performances at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday at Boston University.
Langon Wins Epic Battle, Runs No. 3 Collegiate Time Ever
Villanova's Langon, a senior who starred at Bridgewater-Raritan High, added another chapter to his record-breaking season.
In a dramatic duel with North Carolina senior Colton Sands, Langon left it all on the track, as he always does, diving across the line to win by just five-hundredths of a second, 7:34.00 to 7:34.05!!!
Those times are now No. 3 and 4 all-time in NCAA indoor history, and the 7:34.00 broke Langon previous Villanova school record of 7:34.56 that he ran at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix last month in Boston.
The only two collegiate runners who have ever run faster indoors in the 3K than Langon and Sands are North Carolina teammates Ethan Strand (7:30.15) and Parker Wolfe (7:30.23), who went 1-2 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston on Dec. 7, 2024
Langon's performance now ranks sixth in the world in 2026 and vaults Langon to No. 53 all-time globally in short-track 3,000 meters. He also sits tied atop the collegiate 5K leaderboard this season at 13:05.21 alongside New Mexico's Habtom Samuel.

Clevenger Division 3 Record In 5K
Clevenger, a junior transfer at Rowan who graduated from Haddonfield High in 2022, obliterated the NCAA Division 3 record in the 5K on Friday.
Competing in the invitational section against pros and Division I stars, Clevenger ran a 13:32.09 to break the Division 3 national indoor record and all conditions record of 13:44.98, which was set at this meet in 2023 by Alex Phillip of John Carroll University.
Clevenger's 13:32.09 is also much faster than the Division 3 outdoor record of 13:41.96 that was set last spring by Chasen Hunt of University of Lynchburg.
He ran 7:54.87 in the 3,000 meters at The Armory last month - the third-fastest time in Division 3 history - and followed that with a 3:59.41 mile at Ocean Breeze, the fourth-fastest D3 mark ever.
