Paige Sheppard of Union Catholic smashed a New Jersey indoor record and her teammate Sophia Thompson ran the third fastest time in state history when they competed in the Junior International Mile at Saturday's New Balance Grand Prix meet at The Track at New Balance in Boston.

Sheppard, a junior, finished second in Saturday's race in 4:40.29 to slice nearly three seconds off the former NJ indoor record of 4:43.16, run by Michelle Rowen of Washington Township at the 1983 Eastern States Championships at Harvard.
