JERSEY CITY, NJ – The NJIT men's and women's track and field teams co-hosted Saturday's Track and Field Invitational with Saint Peter's College in Lincoln Park.

 

The NJIT men recorded eight first-place finishes led by Ruben Santos, Josh Dolisca and Miguel Tlatelpa.  Santos won the men's 100 meter dash (11.48) and men's long jump (20'7); Dolisca captured the men's shot put (45-02.55) and men's discuses throw (130-11) and Tlatelpa won the men's 800 meter run (2:01.54) and men's 1500 meter run (4:11.07).  Hurdler Jamil Wilkins added a first-place finish in the men's 400 meter hurdle (58.75) while Pierre Damis was first in the men's 110 meter hurdles (16.23).

 

Freshman distance runner Ewelina Marut captured the women's 5000 meter run (20:52.29) and finished second in the women's 800 meter run (2:33.47).  Teammate Megan Higgins placed second in the 5000 meter run (21:03.67) and fifth in the 800 meter run (2:31.64).  Vanessa Escalera was the top finisher for NJIT in the 800 meter run crossing the finish line third at (2:30.61).  Senior sprinter Lesley Hendricks was second in the women's 400 meter dash (1:02.35) and third in the women's 200 meter dash (27.84).  Lauren Dupris took second in the women's javelin throw with a distance of (67-09).

 

Both teams will return to action this weekend at the Monmouth Invitational in West Long Branch, NJ.
