Day One at Great West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships

Friday's Results 


VERMILLION, SD –
After the first day of competition at the Great West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by University of South Dakota, NJIT's Josh Dolisca claimed the men's weight throw title in the DakotaDome Friday afternoon.

 

Dolisca captured the title with a distance of 16.16m, setting a new NJIT schoo-record while recording 10 points for the Highlanders.

 

On the track, senior Umar Saeed placed 13th in the men's 3000 meter run at 9:02.  South Dakota's Rob Gregoire won for the Coyotes in 8:34.

 

Freshman Ewelina Marut finished 12th in the women's 3000 meter run while South Dakota's Ramsey Fitzsimmons defended her title in the women's 3000 meters with a time of 9:58.

NJIT recorded seven school-records Friday afternoon -- Dolisca in the men's weight throw; Jamil Wilkins in the 60 meter hurdles (8.91); Craig Martin in the pole vault (11-1); Ruben Santos in the 60 meter dash (7.20); Lauren Dupris in the women's weight throw (25-9) and the men's and women's distance medley relay (men - 10:45.90; women - 13:26.18).

 

South Dakota and Utah Valley lead the point standings after the first day of women's competition with 80 points. Texas-Pan American is in third place with 26 points, North Dakota in fourth at 17.50 points, Houston Baptist in fifth with 16 points, Seattle in sixth with 8.50 points, NJIT in seventh with four points and Chicago State in eighth with two points.

 

On the men's side, the leader is South Dakota with 55 points followed by Utah Valley 34 points. Houston Baptist is in third with 28 points, North Dakota in fourth with 23 points, Texas-Pan American in fifth with 16 points, NJIT in sixth with 15 points, Chicago State in seventh with 13 points and Seattle in eighth with 10 points.

 

Action resumes at the Great West Conference Indoor Championships Saturday morning at 9am (CT).
