Track and Field Competes at Thompson Invitational

NEWARK, DE –
The NJIT men's and women's Indoor Track and Field teams competed at the Thomson Invitational hosted by University of Delaware Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Field House.

 

The NJIT men made a significant improvement from last year where they finished 11th; Saturday the team earned154 points and placed second behind St. Joseph's, 212 points.

 

Junior Josh Dolisca captured the men's shot put with a distance of 48'04 and added a second place finish in the weight throw at 51'0.

 

Sophomore Jonathan Nunez set a new NJIT school-record in the men's 60 meter high hurdles at 9.06 and was fourth in the men's 60 meter dash, 7.60.  Teammate Ruben Santos was second at 7.43.

 

Distance runner Umar Saeed placed second in the mile run with a time of 4:33.32 and was joined by Jonathan Daudelin and Miguel Tlatelpa finishing just under the five-minute mark.

 

The NJIT women's 4x800 relay, which consisted of Vanessa Escalara, Megan Higgins, Amanda Hefferan and Ewelina Marut set a new NJIT school-record with a time of 10:28.87.

 

Both teams will return to action on Friday when they compete in a dual meet at Saint Peter's.
