WEST POINT, NY -- The NJIT Indoor Track & Field teams opened the 2010 season at the Crowell Open hosted by Army Saturday afternoon.
Junior Josh Dolisca placed 4th in the weight throw, breaking his recent record with a 15.53 m (an improvement of over 6 m from last year at this meet). In the shot put, he recorded a mark of 14.38 m, good enough for 4th place.
Sophomore Ruben Santos placed 5th in the 60m breaking the school record previously held by Aki Oyawusi in a time of 7.22. Santos also placed 4th in the high jump and 5th in the long jump.
“We use this meet to evaluate our level of training coming off the winter break and adjust the athlete's training plans accordingly,” commented coach Al Alonso.
The freshman quartet of Brian Mendez, Adam Morgan, Ben Singleton and Tim Esposito finished first and broke the 4x800 record with a 8:27.70.
Sophomore hurdler Jonathan Nunez placed 3rd in the triple jump with an 11.54 m jump as Esposito took 2nd in the 500 with a time of 1:09.78. Esposito was closely followed by Adam Morgan (1:10.45) and Michael Gurlacz (1:10.59). Senior Jamil Wilkins was 7th in the 60 m hurdles with a 9.17. #Jonathan Daudelin# began his running career with the mile run in a time of 5:05.56.
On the women's side, Amanda Hefferan led off the women's efforts by improving 16 seconds from last year in the mile with a time of 5:50.86. Vanessa Escalera had her NJIT day view with a 3rd place finish in the 500 with a time of 1:25.41.
Nicole Kerrison placed 5th in the 400 with a 65.37 mark and teammate Lesley Hendricks placed 4th in the 200 with a time of 29.18.
Freshman Ewelina Marut finished 5th in the 800 with a 2:43.54 as the 4x800 relay team which featured Hefferan, Christina Roque, Kayla Howell and Kelsey Johnson finished with a time of 11:13.48. Lauren Dupuis threw the shot 7.76 m.
NJIT will return to action January 22 at the Albany Invitational.
