The Middletown North boys led a barrage of red hot performances by New Jersey athletes and teams by burning a US No. 1 time in the sprint medley relay at Tuesday's Holiday Festival at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
Middletown North dropped the biggest bomb of the meet with its nation-leading 3:37.61, which also obliterated its school record by five seconds. Senior Jack Chenoweth led off for the Lions with a 51.6 400 carry, sophomore Trade Girgus (22.6) and senior Christian Sanford (23.1) handled the 200 legs, and senior Aaron Guensch closed it out with a 2:00.3 anchor.
NJ NO. 1 PERFORMANCES
There were six more NJ No. 1 performances turned in at the meet.
Both two mile races saw NJ No. 1 times as senior Paul Maguire of Don Bosco Prep took over the state lead in the boys 2-mile with a winning time of 9:42.1, and Senior Abigail Waddington of Clearview placed second in the girls 2-mile with a NJ No. 1 time of 11:07.38.
The Elizabeth girls, who captured the shuttle hurdles in 36.97. Senior Cynthia Boakye, who ran on the shuttle for the Minutemen, also ran 8.54 to place second in the 55 hurdles.
Senior Justin King of Bergen Catholic took over the state lead in the weight throw by winning that event with 49-3.25.
The sixth state-leading performance came from senior Ahmad Fogg of Egg Harbor, who was second in the boys LJ with a mark of 22-3.50
Paramus Catholic had a big day, winning the girls 4x200 in 1:45.64, and the boys shuttle hurdles in 33.05.
Senior Branden Satterwhite of Matawan captured the boys TJ with a NJ No. 2 mark of 44-3.
Senior Fabian Gonzalez of Southern won the boys shot put with a throw of 55-1.25.
Mainland teammates McKenna Pontari (NJ No. 3 leap of 17-0) and Emma Crozier-Carole (16-8) finished 1-2 in the girls long jump.
Samantha Strydesky of Howell, the Meet of Champions winner last spring in the girls high jump, won that event by clearing 5-4.
East Brunswick senior Arianna McSweeney cleared 11-0 to win the girls pole vault, and Brian Swain of Manchester made 12-0 to win the boys pole vault,
