Salute to Seniors: Josh Forrest Of Collingswood

Salute To Seniors is a medium for "senior farewells". We invited this year's seniors to tell their stories from the past four years. We hope we can offer a chance to reflect on all the great moments these seniors were able to experience.

The series will run through July, please note that there is usually a large queue of submissions so there may be a wait until final posting.

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment? Why is that?

The group 2 state 1600 race senior year. I was behind 15 meters at the bell, and came back to win my first state title in a big PR of 4:15.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years and why?

I wasn't very good my first two years of high school, but my biggest competition for the last two years has to be Zach Williams and Jake Cobb. Both are phenomenal athletes that pushed me to be better.

What was your personal greatest accomplishment?

Doubling at states my senior year and winning both the 1600 and 3200.

If you are writing a letter to your younger freshman self, what are some items that might include?

I would tell myself to start working hard from the start, be patient, and enjoy the little things.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I have had two stress fractures in high school that kept me out a total of 4 months.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my teammates and coaches the most.

What advice would you give to younger upcoming athletes?

Talent is not as big of a factor as you think. Work really hard.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

An enormous influence. I'm not sure where I would be without my coaches. My coaches are great at what they do and are also great people. They definitely pushed me to be better and supported me in my pursuit of a state title.

Name the top New Jersey XCTF moment(s) you have witnessed. Can be by level of greatness or just something that really stood out to you.

The best NJXCTF moment I've witnessed was when my teammate Owen Marish ran 1:56 to win the Camden county title in 2021. It was his first season of track, a 3 second PR, and a incredible moment.

What are your post-high school or college plans?

I will be running and studying at the University at Buffalo. Go bulls

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

Big thank you to Mrs. Witte,  Mr.Witte, Chris Catton, Coach Tara, my family, and my teammates.
