It was a perfect storm for fast times at Timber Creek Park on Saturday during the Camden County Championships. The weather leading up to the meet was full of rain, the morning of the meet itself frosted over the damp ground packing in the sandy parts of the course, and with the emphasis on racing opportunities this season the meet was charged with talent.

This led to some ridiculous course records by Cole Wassell of Highland Regional and Sarah Naticchia of Haddonfield Memorial. The winning team averages both snuck under the old course records as well!

Wassell won the boys race running 16:22.50, that broke the course record of 16:51.58 by Richard Castaneda of Camden Catholic in 2018 by almost 30 seconds.

Not only that but the eight finishers behind Wassell all ran under the previous course record as well with Dennis Fortuna timed at 16:30, Josh Forrest 16:35, Tobias Janssen 16:39, Zachary Williams 16:43, Tom Raws 16:45, John Hurly 16:46, Caleb Clevenger 16:47, and Gabe Rodriguez 16:51.

In the boys team race Haddonfield packed four into the top 10 of the race and scored 42 points to finish ahead of Cherry Hill East's 67 point total in a state ranked heavyweight match. Haddonfield split just 28 seconds while averaging 16:50. Cherry Hill East split 35 seconds averaging 17:11.

With some big invitationals usually eating up their schedule the Haddonfield boys rarely send their squad to this meet. The added talent with Haddonfield and elsewhere in the boys and girls races definitely had a part to play with the quick times.

If you thought Wassell's near 30 second course record was big then Sarah Naticchia 18:46.10 should really impress you. The previous course record was a 19:52.65 by Madison Coppolino of Sterling in 2017, Naticchia took it down by a minute and six seconds.

The rest of the top four also ran under the record mark with the two-time defending Camden County champion Sophie Steidle in second at 19:17.30, Allison Colflesh 19:18.90, and Payton Weiner 19:32.30.

The Haddonfield girls also averaged under the individual course record with a 19:37 between their top five and a 1:46 split. Their scoring five were all across the line by ninth place adding up to an impressive 22 points. Cherry Hill East was second at 73 and Paul VI third with 113.

Another note for Haddonfield was their star freshman Anne Earp who ran to fifth overall at 19:58, Lindsay Colflesh closed up their top five in ninth with 20:32. Sabrina Miller and Jess Goode came through as their six and seven in 13th and 15th.
