The Old Bridge boys, and South Brunswick girls, and the Voorhees tandem of Jack Tavaglione and Emma McGill turned in the most impressive performances at Saturday's 7-on-7 Invitational at Thompson Park in Jamesburg.
Old Bridge, ranked No. 10 in the state, showed why it's one of the state's best by packing its first five runners in the top 13 with a compression of 48 seconds, and averaged 17:11 on the way to a 36-55 victory over East Brunswick in the boys Red Division race.
Old Bridge was led up front by junior Kieran Donnelly, third in 16:45, and senior Steve Tan, fourth in 16:48. Old Bridge also received strong races from Nick Medeiros, ninth in 17:16, Evan Pratts, 12th in 17:33, and Riley Appleton, 13th in 17:33.
In the girls team competition, South Brunswick picked up season best times from its top four runners en route to a 36-41 win over Voorhees in the Red Division.
South Brunswick PR's came from Nina Liu, third in 20:45, Srinidhi Gopalan, fifth in 21:06, Nikita Majithia, eighth in 21:28, and Megan Sidoti, 11th in 22:04. Serena Hutchison rounded out the scoring for the Vikings, placing 18th in 21:59.
Individually, the Villanova-bound McGill and Tavaglione threw down the fatest times of the meet.
McGill, the State Group 2 champion last year, won the girls Red Division race in 19:01.Tavaglione, a junior who has been on fire this season, cranked out a 16:11 to roll to victory in the boys Red Division competition.
- Juniors Ian Smith (17:52) and Chris Manzano (18:17) spearheaded the attack for the North Plainfield boys, who edged St. Thomas Aquinas, 36-40, to captutre the Blue Division championship.
- Metuchen and junior Harry Carter of Hun (16:52) captured the boys White Division titles. Metuchen, led by senior Romir Anand, fourth in 17:51, averaged 18:28 as the Bulldogs outscored Manchester Township, 67-86.
- Freshman Emily McCann finished first in 20:43 to lead Princeton Day to a 22-67 victory over Somerville in the girls White Division. PDS put its scoring five in front of Somerville's No. 2 runner to seal the deal.
